In order to increase traffic, I looked at a number of statistics. First of all, I needed to know the amount and type of traffic I’m getting on my blog. It’s for this reason I will be using Google Analytics to see the traffic and pageviews on my site, how users are referred to my site, and the keywords that drive traffic to my site.Secondly, because Social Media is being used more than ever, increasing my influence in
Social Media will drive traffic, and help spread the word regarding my site. By using Klout, I will not only be able to measure my blog’s Social Media impact and influence, but it will allow me to have a baseline from which to build upon. Providing outbound links will not only increase my social medial presence and influence, they could provide valuable inbound links, driving traffic to my blog.
Lastly, I will work to improve my community. I will use analytics to measure the amount and types of visitors to my blog, and see what percentage of repeat visitors I have. I need to leverage these visitors, and encourage them to make repeat visits and interact with my blog. Encouraging visitors to interact with my blog, and creating posts to encourage participation will encourage visitors to be a member of my community, and make repeat visits.
Google Analytics will be a very useful tool to measure the traffic going to my site, and allow me to see what drives users to my blog. Not only will Google Analytics tell me the type and amount of traffic, but it will tell me the origin of the traffic, the locale, and the days and times where my site gets the most traffic. I can use this information to post in a timely manner, which will take advantage of this traffic.
The single statistic I need to improve upon is page views. Looking at Pageviews will only provide a piece of the puzzle; I need to look at the individual pages that get the views, and how long users are on that page. This will not only tell me the interest in my blog, but the particular interest for the types of posts in my blog. This will allow me to see what is popular to my visitors, and I can capitalize on this to take this into account when I make new postings. Not only will I use this information going forward, but looking at the pageviews will allow me to take another look at my blog and see if the blog formatting has any impact (positive or negative) on the pageviews.
Looking at pageviews will also tell me the types of postings that are popular with my visitors. Do they prefer a link to a story, a picture, or a video? How popular are audio posts?
I need to work on applying keywords for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and optimize the content I post. For this reason, it’s an important step to ensure all posts have the applicable keywords, and this will increase traffic from search engines for the types of posts on my site. Not only will this increase the search rankings of my blog, but it will make it easier for users to find my site online, and encourage other sites to link to my blog.
