Current trends in Social Media and Blogging requires changes to how my blog will change. There are a number of areas in which changes need to be made. First and foremost, the popularity and number of mobile devices requires my blog not only be mobile-friendly, but capitalize on the types of features that mobile users demand. This means that my blog must be formatted and contain content that will be easily accessible and readable on devices such as iPhones, Android devices, and others. The pictures and video posted on my blog must be vivid and clear to users, but small enough so mobile users will still be able to view them.
In many ways, today’s Miniblogging is like fast food; a lot of content in small, easily accessible pieces. For this reason I will include many smaller posts, which can be easily shared by Social Media networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). I will also feature pictures on my site to encourage use by Tumblr users.
I will encourage users to take part in, and register on my site using their Social Media credentials. This will encourage participation, and make it easy for users of Social Media to take part on the discussion and submissions in my blog.
Using analytics, like Klout, to measure my blog’s influence will be a good way to guage my blog’s status against the baseline when the blog was first rolled out. By keeping track of my blog’s influence, I can fine tune the content and appearance to respond to the Klout score.
My associating my blog with charitable efforts, I can grow my audience, while doing some good. Becoming a member of the International Dark Sky Association will not only show my readers that I am a serious astronomer, growing my audience in the process, but I will connect and network with others who have the same passion for protecting the night sky, and working to reduce light pollution.
